Alan Whitehorn, Emeritus Professor of Political Science, Royal Military College of Canada

Nelson WisemanAlan Whitehorn is the foremost expert on the federal NDP in Canada. His numerous publications on the federal NDP have examined the party’s ideology, leaders, activists, conventions, platforms, election campaigns, and relationship with the labour movement. He received his BA in Political Science and History (York) and his M.A. and Ph.D. in political science (Carleton). While at Carleton University, he was research director on David Lewis's memoirs The Good Fight. He is a Emeritus Professor of Political Science at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario. For almost three decades, Professor Whitehorn taught at RMC in the areas of Canadian parties and public opinion, comparative politics and political theory. From 1994 to 1996, Dr. Whitehorn was the first holder of the J.S. Woodsworth chair in Humanities at Simon Fraser University. During 1997/1998 he was a visiting associate at McGill University (fall semester), adjunct professor at Simon Fraser University (spring semester), visiting professor at Carleton University 2005 (winter semester).
